Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThis was the perfect place to stay to soak up the incredible views of Gjirokaster! Edmond and his staff were all so lovely and accommodating, and we really enjoyed our time. Plus, the location is super convenient for wandering around the old town area. To note, if you have a big suitcase you do need to walk up a steep path for a short while, but this was no issue for us. Would definitely recommend!

FranceWe really love four stay in guesthouse Mele. We stayed for one night but we wanted to stay more. The place is in front of the mountains so the view is amazing. Our room was good, everything worked well. The host and his family were really really nice and helpful. We ate at their house the menu they provide and it was really good typical food. And the breakfast is complete and really good too. We didn’t had a car so by walk is very easy to go there. It’s 5/10 min from the center but there is no noise and it’s very calm. The pool is a bonus, you can swim and enjoy the beautiful view. We couldn’t recommend more this place! Thank you !

United KingdomWe spent two nights at Guesthouse Mele and it was wonderful! Beautiful location, very peaceful yet very close to the tourist spots (Old Bazaar, Castle). Edmond and his family were superb hosts - they went above and beyond to make us feel at home. Would highly recommend having dinner at the Guesthouse one night!

Its very close to the bazaar and city center, but at a calm location at the same time. The pool was the best part as it was 43 degrees at the time of our stay. We wouldnt have survived without it. The host is very nice and the breakfast was delicious and big!

DenmarkDuring our travels through Albania, we decided to stop in Gjirokastër—and we absolutely loved it. We spent two days there and chose to stay at this guest house. Located very close to the old town, this place is simply amazing. We stayed in a beautifully decorated room with everything we needed: a comfy bed, a clean bathroom (great water pressure and hot water), a mini fridge, and a “private” terrace with outdoor seating—including a hanging chair and a view of the mountains. The spot is peaceful and quiet, just a short walk from the old town center and bazaar, but far enough away to avoid noise, traffic, and crowds. The guest house also has a lovely pool on another terrace, offering some of the most stunning mountain views I’ve ever seen. There are sun beds and large umbrellas for relaxing comfortably in the shade. Breakfast was served on the top terrace, and once again, the view and peaceful atmosphere made it extra special. The food was homemade, healthy, and delicious. But the best part of all: the host, Edmond. He is incredibly kind and accommodating. Edmond and his family truly earned our respect with their humble yet committed way of running this guest house. It’s a super well-managed, family-run place where you can relax and enjoy your time in Gjirokastër. Edmond and his son Brian were simply wonderful—always welcoming, attentive, and ready to help with anything we needed. I especially appreciated that Edmond contacted us a few days before our arrival with helpful directions, and even assisted with parking (driving in the narrow, steep streets can be tricky if you’re not used to it). I strongly recommend Mele Guest House and will never forget Edmond, Brian, and the rest of the family. Thank you for making our time in this beautiful city so memorable.

Czech RepublicThe only downside for me was that the bed was a bit short, with a metal part at the bottom that I kept bumping into during the night. Also, parking needs to be paid for (although it's only 2 euros), but we hadn’t been told about this beforehand.
Pleasant accommodation with a very attentive host who offered us a cold juice right upon arrival, which was very welcome after a long journey. The hotel’s location is excellent — you're close to the main streets, yet it's quiet. The view during breakfast is incredible, and a big plus is the pool that's included with the accommodation.

AustraliaNothing not to like
This is one of my favourite accomodation in albania. The Host and his family are super kind. Breakfast is freshly made with local ingredients every morning. The Rooms are super clean and well equiped with everything one needs. Alot of detail in the design. The private balcony under the grape-vines was an absolute highlight and the pool is great to relax and cool off during the heat. The Host and his family were insanely friendly and attentive. We would visit albania again just to stay at their family guesthouse again!

LithuaniaHighly recommended! This is a truly beautiful place with warm and attentive hosts. We booked two rooms for our family — each one was unique, and staying there felt like living in a museum. The view from the balcony and several terraces was breathtaking at any time of the day. The rooms were spotlessly clean. Breakfast was abundant and diverse — eggs, vegetables, cheese, pancakes, cake, fruits, and three different drinks. But the absolute highlight was the pool — stunning to look at and incredibly refreshing on hot summer days. We ended up swimming at least three times a day! In summary, we loved everything. The value for money was excellent, the location was great, and the hosts were truly wonderful. A heartfelt thank you for everything!

Guesthouse Mele is a hidden gem 💎. Edmund was responsive & proactive in helping us get to the house as comfortable as possible. Note that it’s a steep, narrow road, uphill drive with 2-way traffic. Edmund met us on the way up and offered to drive the car to their private carpark- we were so thankful for that! The room… wow! You get a beautiful view of the mountains and city. It’s decorated to make you feel cosy ❤️

AustraliaWe loved everything and would highly recommend staying at Guesthouse Mele!
We loved staying here and wish we could have stayed more than 1 night! The property had a phenomenal view and we loved being able to swim and enjoy the sunset. Edmond was very kind and helpful with meeting us and parking the car as the streets are very narrow. His family were beautiful and prepared a delicious breakfast on the rooftop for us to enjoy. The room itself had everything you needed and was very comfortable with nice traditional decoration. The bathroom and aircon was great. It was well located only a short walk from the main bazaar and castle, though note it is up a hill if you have trouble with that but we didn’t. Edmond also helped us with directions to the Ali pasha bridge and drove us to an easy road where we could continue on rather than battling through the little streets of gjirokaster!
