Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomLoved everything about it
I stayed at Guva for 2 nights with my wife and two daughters. Pristine, comfortable rooms. Incredible views from large balconies. Utterly delightful hosts, Islam and Dora, and truly delicious breakfasts with various dishes that enabled us to skip lunch on both days. We also opted for home cooked dinner one night, which was our best meal of our 9 day trip, enjoyed on the roof terrace with breathtaking views. The whole experience of staying at Guva was incredible for all of us, and we could not be more grateful to our exceptional hosts and to their son, based in Tirana, who was really helpful making arrangements for us like booking a taxi to take us to Saranda. Huge thanks. We’d be back like a shot if we ever came to Gjirokaster again.

AustraliaLovely and quaint guest house in Gjirokastra. From the outside it's traditional but inside everything has been updated and it's very nicely done. Big comfy beds and the balcony looks out to the mountains. The hosts treated us to an Albanian breakfast on the terrace on the roof of the house. It was a very nice way to start the day. It's a bit of a walk to the old part of town but we needed it after the big feast we devoured at dinner. It's quite a magical area, recommend getting out and about at night as the streets in old town are lively and full of restaurants and bars. Definitely recommend visiting Gjirokastra and staying at Guva!

United KingdomWe were welcomed by our lovely hosts and instantly felt at home! The room was really clean and comfortable and all the facilities were brand new. The best shower I’ve had in a long time! But the best part of this place was the incredible view over the valley, it was really special. We got to enjoy the view over a delicious home cooked breakfast on the roof terrace. The property was in a great location just a 15 min walk to the main area and bazaar. The whole town is on a hill so expect some uphill walking to get about! Overall fabulous stay and we’d highly recommend to anyone staying in Gjirokaster!

GermanyThe owner are so super friendly and caring. They helped us with our own problem where ever they could. Accommodating people, with a good taste of decoration. The room is cozy and have everything you need. If not just ask. They will bring it you. We ask for a hair dyer. They also give us their own charger. My wish for a veggie breakfast was not a big deal, and also they take care of my allergies. We mostly communicate with Google translate. That worked good, if not they called her daughter. She speaks English. All in all we can recommend the apartment!

HungaryWe really liked our room in this guesthouse! The view from the balcony was incredible! The hosts were great, and it was a perfect start for the day to have a big and delicious breakfast on the rooftoop with a view to the surrounding mountains. The room was clean, well equipped and quiet. There's also a possibility to park there (although the garage can only fit one car) and it is easy to find it. I can highly recommend this place to anyone who would like to stay close to the center (the castle is around 10 mins on foot from there) in a comfortable accomodation.

United KingdomGjirokastër was built on the mountains, so there is a steep hill to reach the guesthouse by car. However, once you are there, it's only a short 10-15 min walk to the Castle and Bazaar (and it's much quieter than staying near the Bazaar).
The room was brand new, the view was spectacular, and the owners were just wonderful. Breakfast was delicious and had the best view, with amazing service. It was our favourite stay in Albania during the trip. We would love to go back!

AlbaniaI recently stayed at this delightful guest house in Gjirokastra and had an unforgettable experience. From the moment I arrived, the owners went above and beyond, even helping me find a taxi to reach the guest house. The room I stayed in offered all the commodities, and the rooftop view was simply stunning, on one side overlooking the historic castle and the charming traditional streets and the other side facing mountains. The location was perfect, nestled in a quiet, authentic street, just a short walk from the old bazaar. The breakfast provided was both huge and delicious, adding a wonderful start to each day. The true highlight was the warm hospitality and the genuine local vibe that made me feel right at home. Highly recommend this guest house for a memorable stay in Gjirokastra!

NetherlandsNothing I didn’t like.
The location was in an area with other small family home stays. You stay with the locals in their home, which I really like. Wonderful pittoresque area just 400 meters away from the castle and 700 meters away from the old town and bazaar. The rooms are clean and spacious and quite new I guess. Breakfast on the roof terrace gives a wonderful view over the mountains. Really positive about the property. The staff were an older couple who were really sweet. So kind. A great stay, with sweet and kind staff, in a real Albanian village atmosphere.

BulgariaThe location of the house is good, and it is indeed close to the city center - but as the crow flies. One should take into account the elevation of the narrow streets leading through the old city walls into the heart of Argyrocastro. Walking there is picturesque but also tough experience.
Great hospitality and really nice attitude from the hosts at the spot - even though they spoke no other language apart from Albanian. We had though very good distant communication with the English speaking place owner, very helpful and available online at all times. The breakfast is abundant and very very delicious, with home made meals and served with the greatest care by the kind host. The rooms are small, but tidy and comfortable, and air conditioned as well - which was essential in the very hot days we had during our stay.

NetherlandsRoom was a bit small with the beds and desk, so it was sometimes a bit of a dance getting around. Parking is limited, we were lucky to be the only ones there.
Absolute amazing hosts. They didn't speak any English, but really tried their hardest to still communicate non-verbally with us. They provided a garage where we could park our car and greeted us with a bowl of candies. Room was nice and cozy. We had contacted them beforehand about the possibility to do laundry and they remembered this when we arrived. They didn't charge us anything extra for this service. We were allowed to store some drinks we had bought in their fridge due to the lack of a mini fridge. When we picked our drinks up they asked if we wanted to sit on the rooftop terrace so they turned on a light there. They were extremely on point and aware of us, serving breakfast as soon as we were up and locking up as soon as we went into the room. Absolute amazing service!

BulgariaThe house is close to the fortress and the bazaar, but also not that close:appr. 20 min walking because of the steep streets. Wait for the exact location by the kind host, so you don't waste time. Support via chat in English is outstanding, no complaints about that!
The house is very clean and the rooms are comfortable, though not super big. There is everything one would need for a short stay. The hosts are very, very nice and wanting to help. They do not speak English, but will make everything possible to make your stay a pleasure. The breakfast included in the price is abundant and tasty, absolutely worth it.

SpainThe owners barely speak any English but it's manegeable. We used Google translate and gestures. The location was good, only thing is the village is on a hill so it's tricky to get anywhere.
