How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewWonderful guesthouse with a very comfortable room, Especially the nicely renovated modern bathrooms. Despite a language barrier we were warmly greeted by the friendly owner who accommodated a last minute change of stay and allowed us to check in earlier in the morning. The location was fantastic just a couple of minutes away from the main restaurants and shops but away from any noise. We were also given a fantastic breakfast in the house’s beautiful courtyard.

Verified reviewPerfect little guesthouse tucked away near the bazaar and best bits of Gjirokaster! We were so well looked after by Arber and his family, the breakfast was delicious and we felt very welcomed! Couldn’t recommend highly enough!

Verified reviewI'd highly recommend this guesthouse, because besides the fact that it's a good place to stay (clean room which keeps the heat out, great location, great value), it's also a fantastic experience as you get to stay with a very nice local family. Arber's mom cooked us very delicious breakfast every morning and helped us with everything we needed. She doesn't speak English, but we still found it quite easy to communicate. Would highly recommend a stay here!

Verified reviewSmall guesthouse managed by a lovely family. A bit tricky to find but very close to the old town center and yet super quiet. The room is small and basic but comfortable for a short stay. Lovely breakfast in the patio.

Verified reviewArber and his mom are sweet, lovely people. Arber is always available to respond to questions. This is a room at the family house. The room is spacious and comfortable, with a nice bed and good bedding. The private bathroom is very comfortable as well, the shower has a very good water pressure, and toiletries are provided. The house is close to Gjirokaster's old bazaar but in a quiet area so a good sleep is ensured. Arber's mom makes a delicious homemade breakfast and she is very kind. I strongly recommend this room for those looking for a relaxed experence in an Albanian home. Although it may seem a little difficult to find the house, Arber will send you a couple of videos explaining how to find the place. The house is within walking distance from the main square and all the attractions.
Everything was OK.

If you want an original Balkan experience for a day try this accommodation. Very simple room somwhe in the old town, hard to find. You must walk in a path for 2 minutes.

Verified reviewArber and his family were very nice and welcoming. The room was big and we had a good shower. Also the breakfast was a plus. When we arrived we got some water and later we got some fruit, which was very nice.
Parking can be a bit difficult. Maybe some instructions how to get there by car, because parts of the city centre are only reachable by foot.

Verified reviewThe stay was perfect, I felt extremely welcome, the room was spacious, the shower was good, the location was wonderful, just a few minutes from the busiest area of the Bazaar, but still very quiet. The property's cat is adorable and the breakfast is delicious. You can also feel in the details that the room was made with great care for guests, from the well-lit mirror in the bathroom to the powerful hairdryer.

Verified reviewHome stay with Arber and his lovely family (including the cat Kiko!). Very warm and hospitable people - best breakfast we had in Albania! Room was traditional, comfortable and clean. Ground floor. Excellent location for walking around the old town.
Because it's the old town parking was not easy, but Arber helped us - just get in touch!

Verified reviewThe family was so lovely and beautiful, the guesthouse is in a perfect location, steps away from the bazaar. The breakfast was simple but oh so yummy and varied both days we were there. Check-in and out was super easy.
The bed could be comfier, and we weren't huge fans of the smell of the shower drain.

Verified reviewVery lovely guesthouse, cozy room and a beautiful view from the window, located just steps away from the old town, a simple homemade breakfast
It is a guesthouse, so you are staying with the family that lives there. It's not a negative, just something to think about if privacy is something that's important for you. The bathroom could've been a bit cleaner. Would've loved a coffee or a hot drink with my breakfast

Verified reviewArber and his parents were perfect hosts. Their guesthouse is 5 minutes walk to the Old Bazaar area so very close to all places I wanted to see. Arber even got up at 5am to take me by car to the bus station for the 8 hour bus ride to Athens. He made me toast to take. He also bought a much brighter light bulb for my room so I could read my book at night. There was plenty of hot water for showers, the bed was very comfortable, breakfasts were great and I had everything I needed so my Gjirokaster visit was wonderful.
- All was great. I definitely recommend taking a 5 Euro taxi ride if you arrive at the bus station. Gjirokaster paths are mostly very steep and have lose gravel. That's true of the path to Arbor's Guesthouse too.

Verified reviewWarm, friendly and welcoming family and kitty. Enormous breakfasts. Great location between downtown and the old bazaar (but closer to bazaar) making exploring easy.
The outdoor area was very cluttered. Construction was going on to build a kitchen for guests; it will be really nice for future guests but it made my stay less comfortable because the outdoor area was not inviting.

Verified reviewWe had such a lovely stay at Guesthouse Arber. The hosts were so lovely and welcoming. The room was really comfortable and in a perfect location a 2 minute walk to the old bazaar. We would love to come back if we are ever in Gjirokaster again. Make sure you give their cat Kiko a pat too, he’s adorable. WiFi is very fast/reliable.
The only small complaint we would make was that there weren’t very clear instructions for finding the property, which is hidden down an alleyway and around a corner. Simply taking some photos with descriptions would help.

Verified reviewSami and Viktor are warm, welcoming, and cheerful. They helped us do laundry and we're available to help with anything. They made us a special vegan breakfast. You are in a quiet area, close to everything and very comfortable. There is a lot of care put into Arber. If you have a car we recommend parking lower down on the hill because the street becomes narrow.

Verified reviewArber & his parents are the most hospital & generous hosts, you are literally in their home & you can join them in the living room or for a cup of tea. Lovely little breakfast & mountain tea. Arber was great with communication & answering any questions. The location is just a short walk up to main centre, tucked away quietly, which I liked. Kiko the cat is cheeky & friendly!
Just so others are aware, the room is very dark, no views. It was fine for me & my stay.

Verified reviewThe stay was perfect! The location is great, close to the historic center and yet completely silent and calm. The bedroom and the bed are both super comfy, breakfast is insanely good, but nothing compares to the hospitality of this amazing family! Arber offered to take us to the bus station, and as if that wasn’t kind enough, he took us to see a lake I mentioned wanting to visit on the way. During our stay, he, his lovely mother, and adorable father were the best hosts we could have hoped for. And we can’t forget the cutest cat, Kiko, who played with us all the time ❤️ thank you so much Arber, it was a pleasure staying with you!
Nothing, everything was amazing
