Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaOne of the most beautiful rooms we have ever stayed in. Such a unique location, rich with character. The staff were helpful and friendly. The lady who made us breakfast was so kind and lovely. The breakfast was large and delicious. The view from the guest house was absolutely spectacular. CanadaEverything was fantastic!
This is such a gem! It is so beautiful - you feel like you are sleeping in a castle and the updated facilities, such as air conditioning and bathroom, are clean and wonderful. It truly is a 10-minute downhill walk to the Bazar and a 15-minute walk to the castle. The hosts are so lovely with Andi even picking us up at the bus station in town. The breakfasts were exceptional with great vegetarian options! This place is clean and beautiful! Highly recommend it.

SpainI have some suggestions. First, it is very difficult to reach the place if you don't know the city. The owners give indications but still we got lost (and the owners picked us up and took the car for us). I would suggest that a video or even more detailed indications are provided. Second, the room is very big, so it is missing a chair and a trash bin perhaps. Last, since you cannot flush toilet paper, it is essential that the toilet bin is changed daily. These are suggestions to improve, my rate is still a 10.
This is a very especial property with very especial hosts. Delicious breakfast by Albanian family, espectacular views. Real old Gjirocaster house fully renovated.

United KingdomThe location we found difficult to find up cobble roads, however Nella said to face time her and she would guide us in. Once we got the hang of it we were fine.

United StatesWhat a spectacular place to stay in Gjirokaster! The hosts were so friendly and thoughtful. So much care and love has gone into the guesthouse and property. The view over the city was spectacular. We only planned for a quick stay in Gjirokaster so I regret not having more time to enjoy the beautiful views from the terrace. The room was immaculately clean. Breakfast was fantastic. We loved our stay and highly recommend the property.

United KingdomDespite being given directions with photos, it’s still tricky to find. It’s worth doing a bit of research on Google maps to try to marry up the instructions/photos with Google maps so you have a sense of where to go. Owner responsive & very helpful when we called to ask if we were in the right place. Beware some switchbacks in the road are too tight to drive round in one go - either shuffle or go further along & do a U-turn to come back & make the switch back turn from the other direction. All good fun! It wouldn’t put me off staying again.
Beautiful stone room with domed ceiling and lovely large feature bed. Room kept cool due to stone construction. Nice shower. Good breakfast. Location close to bazaar (although a bit of a climb uphill - but to be expected in Gjirokaster!) Friendly hosts. Parking was ok, a bit tight/crowded; directions sent by WhatsApp. The drive up was an experience! We found it fun/s challenge but others might see it as stressful.

NorwayLovely property owned by a family. When booked remember to check your messages on booking where the owner clearly explains how to get to the property, we didn’t do this and were wondering around until opened the app. Great home made breakfast, lovely people.

NetherlandsDue to the narrow and steep streets up to the hill, it is better to arrive in daylight and drive up to the guest house. But it is the ‘price’ of the amazing view.
Our hosts are amazing people, our hospitality was great, we had a delicious breakfast on our terrace, with an amazing view! Our duplex apartment was fully renovated and comfortable for 3 people.

CanadaThe room could get a bit chilly at night, and the shower runoff often caused water to spread across the bathroom floor, which was a bit inconvenient.
The place is stunning, and the room was uniquely designed, unlike anything I've seen before. The king-size bed was spacious and very comfortable. The guesthouse is perfectly located, just steps from Old Town and Gjirokastër Castle. Breakfast was a highlight, especially the delicious donuts. The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming.

United KingdomVery bright it the morning - a small curtain would be ideal. Finding the parking was difficult but not impossible. If you are not an experienced driver I would not try and drive here. I would park at the bottom and get a taxi up. The roads are very narrow, steep and windy.

IrelandIt was difficult to get in the place by car but it is super easy and close to the city centre on foot! There was a car closing the road to access the place which was very stressful for getting into the right spot, apart from that I certainly would choose this place again!

United Arab EmiratesThis budget hotel offers a lovely view from the balcony, and the duplex room layout was a pleasant surprise. The living room had a great sofa sitting area, perfect for relaxation. However, the bathroom space was quite cramped, which could be uncomfortable for some. The location was a bit tricky to find on Google Maps, but the supportive staff made it easier. It's conveniently walkable from the old town market, which is a big plus. The breakfast served was amazing, a definite highlight of the stay. The initial room booked was small and lacked windows, but the hotel was accommodating and switched it upon request.

United StatesThe shower and sink did not have hot water. We didn't have a chance to tell the host before we left, but I'm sure there would have been no issue getting it fixed with enough notice.
The hosts were great. As everyone else mentioned in their reviews, the guest house is VERY difficult to find and get to. After searching for 30 minutes and trying to follow the host's diagrams provided after check-in, we finally had to call the host for assistance. They asked us to share our location and they were there in their car for us to follow within 10 minutes. The room was great and the breakfast was great as well. There's a wonderful view of the castle and town below. Overall, it was a great place to stay and a good value!
