Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomPerhaps not as child-friendly as I had wanted. Usually stay at hotels with larger pools and slides etc. definitely an adult Atmosphere.
Breakfast was great. The hotel had a tranquil and calm atmosphere. It was not crowded whatsoever which helped the ambience. But think the hotels service is actually outstanding with absolutely amazing service with staff members making sure we never had to ask for anything - they were always at hand! Special mention is absolutely needed for the amazing concierge staff: Siju, Sher, Bertus and Usman. These guys are constantly on the go - very very impressive.

United KingdomThe extreme heat at this time of the year that we visited.
The Breakfast Buffet was amazing and the daily choice for Indian and Oriental changed giving variety and choice. The staff were helpful and were always attentive. The front desk staff were great and accommodated our early arrival and late departure requests. Housekeeping staff were always available when requested to attend to the room when required. The pool area and gym staff were helpful as always.

NorwayBut so is the passage of time. In our room, we found a wall-mounted volume knob for a sound system that no longer worked. The telephone was clearly from another decade, and there were no sockets by the bed. The hotel had clearly been ahead of the curve when it installed USB charging ports directly in the walls, but now, we found ourselves walking around the room looking for USB-C—without luck. The decor, while still carrying a certain Middle Eastern charm, felt dated. It wasn’t about taste—it was about wear. The colors, materials, and furnishings all seemed frozen in time. A careful update could easily preserve the hotel’s identity while restoring its impact. The clearest sign of decline, though, was at breakfast. There was no host stand, no clear system—just a quiet build-up of guests at the entrance, all glancing at each other to confirm we were, in fact, in a queue. We waited over five minutes before anyone acknowledged us. When we were finally shown to a table, it hadn’t been cleared. The person who seated us said they’d “make it nice,” then left. We waited again, until someone came back with cutlery and napkins. Later, one of us asked for a latte and received a cappuccino instead. We mentioned the mistake, but nothing happened. At the self-serve water station, there were no glasses, and the jug was empty. Again, we had to ask someone to refill it. The staff were friendly, but overstretched. The mood in the breakfast area was tense and under-managed. Individually, these are small things. But when experienced together, they reveal something deeper. Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri is still a hotel with soul. The layout, the setting, the staff—they’re all assets. But the hotel now needs attention. Not reinvention, not a rebrand—just a thoughtful investment in maintenance, service culture, and momentum. It deserves that. And so do the guests who still choose to come back.
Shangri-La Qaryat Al Beri in Abu Dhabi is a swan of a hotel—aged, graceful, and steeped in its former glory. When it opened in 2007, it was likely the pinnacle of luxury in the UAE, and much of that grandeur still lingers. The architecture is elegant, the grounds expansive, and a 15-minute boat ride through the hotel’s private canals evokes a sense of serene opulence. The setting feels more like a palace than a resort. What truly sets it apart, however, is its soul. Many of the staff have been here since day one, and their loyalty reflects a deep connection to the place. This is not a trendy, Instagrammable newcomer—it’s timeless, dignified, and confident in its character. A hidden gem for those who value atmosphere, scale, and enduring hospitality over fleeting glamour.
