It's a while since I had last stayed in the village which was magical in the winter sun. I loved exploring all the historic sites as well as places I was familiar with from my childhood. I walked the length of the village and then followed the Arthur's Pass Track to Jack's Hut and then into the Bealey Valley. There are plenty of walking tracks to choose from depending on how long you want to walk. There were fewer birds in the bush than I would have liked. The cafes were good and I could have joined a church service as well!Guest review byKarenNew Zealand - 8.0
Very relaxing area with many outdoor activities to do.
Very relaxing area with many outdoor activities to do. Great for families to walk around Castle Hill around the rock formations or fishing along the rivers and plenty of different walks around the amazing areas. There were mountain biking trails up Porters with the team at Porter's lodge able to drive you back up to the top of the trails. Definitely keen to get back over to explore some more.Guest review byCBenfellNew Zealand - 8.0

Iconic historical building in an iconic location. The rooms are furnished period appropriate, the restaurant contains a collection of historical curios. The couple running it is very friendly and approachable. The food is hearty kiwi home style cooking.Guest review byMichaelNew Zealand - 4.0

As stated before have to tick above boxes to complete the survey even though we didn’t stay. I tried replying to your email but it was returned undeliverable. Jackson’s Retreat is a tranquil motor camp set in beautiful bush but people need to know the distance from nearest food facilities and there is no cell phone cover.Guest review byIngridNew Zealand - 10.0
Spend at least 2 days there.
Spend at least 2 days there. We spent one night but could have spent 4-6 days based on the number of short hikes to be done there. Visit the NP office first to help decide what to do with your time. Very scenic and the tiny village has 2 cafes and a small store. Bring your own foods and supplies.Guest review byAnitaRNUnited States - 10.0
Very warm welcome from owner.
Very warm welcome from owner. A roaring fire, owner who made us dinner. The room was fab, a bed to die for. Clean ensuite bathroom with a sweet shower. Our own private lounge with massage chair and large screen TV. Tea and coffee provided. A wonderful place to stay.Guest review byHelenNew Zealand - 10.0

You can’t come to NZ and not drive over this pass it’s simply stunning there are lots of hikes and places to walk or drive. It’s a must see and Crazy Moas at the Bealey hotel had to be the most scenic place you have ever eaten dinner.Guest review bySueUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Great for Railfans.
Great for Railfans. Trains can be heard close by in the night. Could hear falling water and night birds. Guests have a separate lounge for tea and coffee making. There are a lot of antique and old world features and displays here. All in all, a comfortable place to stay, considering it is in the middle of nowhere. Great Hikes can be had as well.Guest review byJoeNew Zealand
