We didn’t go into the town of Haast, but were just outside, on the road to Jackson Bay. After the crowds and bustle of other towns, Haast Beach was a welcome change. If you like expansive, empty beaches, with great walkability and rock collecting, this is the experience for you.Guest review byMichaelCanada - 8.0
This is a great base for hiking Aspiring National Park.
This is a great base for hiking Aspiring National Park. It is worth hunting out the less popular tracks such as Juday Track and Sugarloaf Pass as wellas the popular multi-day hikes: Greenstone, Caples, Routeburn and Rees- Dart, all of which are great but busy.Guest review byNeilNew Zealand - 4.0

A lovely small town on the edge of the Mt Aspiring National Park that was a great gateway to all this area has to offer for walking, biking and just enjoying the scenery. Good choices for restaurants, close to a beach and a very neat inviting town.Guest review byLawrenceAustralia - 10.0
Glenorchy is out of this world. Stunning.
Glenorchy is out of this world. Stunning. The road trip there is overwhelming and there are so many fabulous hikes. The wee village has a great hotel with really nice food and vegetarian friendly, same with Mrs Woolly's General Store and good coffee.Guest review byRossNew Zealand - 10.0

Lots of walks in the Haast Pass area, plus more around The Neck. Moss covered bush, and brilliant views when you get above the treeline (if the clouds haven't closed in). Winter is probably not the best time, but still very walkable. In summer Wilkins Jetboats are operaiting and there are more high octane amusements on offer.Guest review byHelenNew Zealand - 8.0
Not many tourists stop here.
Not many tourists stop here. The Visitors Centre is amazing with a brilliant interpretative display. The drive to Jackson Bay is well worth making the time for to explore the wild Southland areas. Highly recommend the Heartland Hotel for dinner.Guest review byAnonymous - 8.0
Small town. Great general store.
Small town. Great general store. Cafe kitchens dont open till 12 so its just coffee n cabinet food till then. Epic views and good walks to do. Ate at Mr Glen's Taphouse - great coffee and cabinet food. Recommend walk around boardwalk and lagoon. Need a 4WD if going to Paradise - river crossings.Guest review byAmaliNew Zealand - 10.0

The buildings are great and very kiwi. This is a genuine place with fantastic staff and in a great setting. We'd recommend it to anybody travelling through beautiful Haast Pass. It's the real thing. Not poncy. The meal was great as was the beer....Guest review byGarryNew Zealand
