- From £52.21 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 229 reviewsThe Sandcastle is an amazing place. Staying there you could see and feel the amounts of love and attention it is built upon and run with. Steve is such a great host, so pleasant and welcoming. The property and cottages are so beautiful and cosy. I wish I had another week or more to stay there. Will definitely stay there again on my next visit to NZ, and recommended the place to my NZ family.Guest review byLihiIsrael
- From £89.19 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 412 reviewsThe owners were really interested in their guests, friendly and approachable for any discussion or questions. The location and facilities met our expectations, such that everything was provided to allow us to self cater. Centrally located with the shops and supermarket all within an easy walk. I would recommend people visiting the Takaka area to stay at this motel.Guest review byPeterAustralia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.8Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 25 reviewsWe adored everything about this place, the view, the chalet, bathroom the breakfast basket delivered the night before. We cooked on the bbq quite a bit too. Loved we could do laundry freely after 5pm. The owners and staff were all super lovely too. It was spotlessly clean and really felt 5 star. We also really liked the area close to collingwood and farewell spit.Guest review byCatherine LopezUnited Kingdom
- From £75.53 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.6Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 104 reviewsWe absolutely loved our night here. Super clean, super comfortable beds, great space, beautiful shower, loved the basin, lovely and warm with the heat pump, but the little additional bits like the spray oil and box of tissues made it. Seeing the gardens in the morning was just the icing on the cake.Guest review byDeeNew Zealand

Little Hut with a lot of space inside and outside, nice terrace with pic nic table and view into the garden. And as an extra surprise: a little glowworm cave on the grundsätzlich.Guest review byUlrikeAustria

We love this beach - especially in winter! It is also very close to some special places - Tata and Ligar Beaches, the Wainui Falls, the Grove Reserve and more - always something new to discover. Molly Bs is to be reccommended…and the cafes of Takaka are not far away.Guest review byPeterNew Zealand - 10.0

Collingwood and out lying areas have some spectacular scenery with very unique environments not found in other places of the world. If you want to learn some history about early NZ, this little place has bits of information signposted everywhere so forget about guessing who found the place or what kept the inhabitants there. Even the journey there from Nelson was interesting with multiple towns and side trips like Mapua, the entrance to the Abel Tasman Track, Kaiteriteri Beach, Pohara and Waipupu Springs walk which was wonderful, just to mention a couple of things we did.Guest review byChristine - 10.0

Great spot near Takaka but in a natural setting. Comfortable studio unit with kitchen, dining lounge & bed all open plan. Well fitted out for a couple wanting a rustic retreat, The hosts Fiona and Frederick were superb . They presented the place in pristine condition and were very responsive when needed. Really tranquil & peaceful place with good flow in and out..Guest review byMurrayNew Zealand - 10.0
We loved the north end of the beach, tata.
We loved the north end of the beach, tata. Lovely and sheltered, and very safe for kids to swim or play on rocks. Very friendly golden bay kayak company, to hire kayaks for a morning. Takaka was also a lovely town to walk around, good food, coffee, gifts and a market was on Saturday. Other than this, our time was too short in the area.Guest review byalettaNew Zealand - 10.0

When you come out of pupu springs rd turn left and go to the pupu hydro tailrace track. not to be missed. Before walking the track go to the power station and read about it. you will get a much better understanding if you do this before the walk also suggest you do the walk clockwiseGuest review byandrewNew Zealand - 10.0
Great beach, and more good beaches nearby.
Great beach, and more good beaches nearby. Quiet summer holiday location that was still buzzing (in late Jan) with holiday-makers and had the comforts you might relish (local choices for bar & cafe & shop for groceries). A great place for a summer vacation.Guest review byMajor - 8.0

There is great scenery to be seen and some good walks nearby. Wharariki Beach is a favourite. Very dramatic rock formations, sea, sand dunes and seals. The Langford store is worth going to. Nice women with lovely homemade things to eat, drink and buy. Good collectables if that's what you like. Quirky and full of character. It is handy to longer and very scenic walks like Abel Tasman and Heaphy. I think some increased range of eating for vegetarians would be good. The Court House Cafe is particularly good for daytime food and coffee. The general store has most of what you need at reasonable prices. The Takaka Hill is a nice drive as long as you are a careful driver. Some clearly are not. Great views.Guest review byGeoffNew Zealand - 10.0

The style of the house fits in perfect with its surroundings and area! You get a very relaxing and easy stay being able to connect with nature and the views all around you. The heated outside shower was amazing, compost toilet was very clean and modern considering, all in all the perfect blend of modern and easy to use things without looking out of place for it’s environment.Guest review byneishaNew Zealand - 10.0

I loved every minute in this welcoming, peaceful, loving hippie community! Check out the notice board in town and attend events with the locals-- it's worth it! I was able to hitchhike all over Golden Bay, no problem! There are so many beautiful hikes and nature spots in the area. Also, stop in for a yoga class in town! Next to the studio, there's a smoothie place called Mermaid Beach House. Tell the owner, Amba, that a girl named Jenna sent you! Everything she makes is divine! I can't wait to go back!Guest review byJenna
