SingaporeThis was the absolute highlight of our trip as far as accommodation is concerned. After a longish drive all we wanted was a comfortable place to relax and Milford Sound Lodge way exceeded our expectations.
The room was amazing, with a great view of the mountains outside. The decor is modern and classy. The breakfast was so fantastic it even attracted a kea who stared longingly at the food from outside the glass door.

What a delightful little town! The glow worm caves were an absolute highlight, especially with the stunning waterfall inside—such a magical experience. The town is clean, walkable, and full of charming little shops and scenic walks. Plus, the grocery store was top-notch for anything you might need. We drove our hire car from Queenstown and stayed just the one night as we had a Tour booked the next day on the boat. We enjoyed the drive and the stunning scenery on our trip to Milford Sound; however, if you are short on time, you can FLY straight out and do the Boat cruise in half a day. If you drive down- it's an ALL-DAY event and that is why we opted to stay overnight and travel back to Queenstown the next day. There is only a CAFE in the town for quick food and coffee etc... There were limited places to pull up on the trip to have a meal. Lots of scenery and a long drive but enjoyable if you like car trips?Guest review byKARENAustralia - 8.0

We ended up staying at the Tasman holiday park, the bed was so much more comfortable and the manager there was so lovely. Te Anau was a great spot to see the glow worm caves, which was our highlight and we drove to do the Milford sound and it was a beautiful drive, which took about 2 hours both ways. There’s some lovely cafes and restaurants, gift shops and supermarkets. The bird sanctuary to se the Takahe was also a great stop.Guest review byJacqui - 10.0

Staying in the Sound is special - it is a very short drive (minutes) to the cruise departure points. It's about 2 hours drive otherwise from the closest town to the national park. You are immersed in the environment and you need to be flexible in regards to weather - we had several road closures (can't leave the park), rain and significant snow fall at the Homer tunnel area. Manapouri is a breathtakingly beautiful area with a quiet restful atmosphere. There is a lovely restaurant nearby and other food outlets. Lots to do in the area too. There are the day and overnight trips to Doubtful Sound, a stunningly beautiful area that will blow your mind. You do need to book ahead for these trips. I really enjoyed our stay in Te Anau. It's a beautiful town. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Great location to stay for a night or two if you are going to do the Milford track or do any of the attractions in the Milford Sound and surrounding area. I would definitely stay at the @Radford on the Lakeside. Lovely motel and very nice rooms. Have dinner at the Fat Duck (Lumina lamb dish was delicious). Breakfast and lunches at Sandfly. Can only recommend to drive to Milford in the morning spend the rest of the day in Milford and do some short walks. Next day do your boat trip etc and enjoy nature. Drive back the following day. It also has a fantastic cafe/bar/restaurant called The Church, which I thoroughly recommend.
