- From £147.78 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 465 reviewsThe hotel is great! You have to have a car or take a taxi to get there because it is a little ways out of Ajijic, but if you are looking to just relax at a hotel with a pool this is a wonderful place. The pool area is beautiful, the staff is very helpful, and the breakfast buffet on the weekend was great. I have stayed here once on a weekend and once during the week, and during the week the bar and restaurant close really early and the breakfast is not as complete since it's not buffet, but it was still nice. But if I went back I would definitely go on the weekend to be able to have the poolside bar and restaurant until the evening and the buffet breakfast.Guest review byKatherineUnited States
- From £146 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 691 reviewsThe entire staff was excellent. They cleaned our room daily, provided clean towels and were very friendly. The pool area was well maintained and was an excellent place to relax. The location was great, and was within easy walking distance to the plaza and lake shore. My wife and a guest ate breakfast a few times at the hotel and she said it was delicious with a great choice. It was very quiet and we slept well. My wife slept in but I got up early to go on hikes, and we both felt very safe. The hotel is well managed, clean and well lit. We enjoyed our 6 day stay and definitely will do again.Guest review byGaryUnited States

Ajijic was very nice, especially as it was the off-season.
Ajijic was very nice, especially as it was the off-season. I enjoyed the town. I would have liked it better if there were not so many expats. I wanted more of an opportunity for speaking Spanish, but I kept running into people who could not speak Spanish or did not want to speak Spanish. For Spanish, I had to take a bus to go to Chapala. I was later told that 70% of the population of Ajijic is expats and that Chapala was about 5% expats. (This was told to me by an expat couple and verified by others, including people who were non-English-speaking.) Ajijic was still very nice and I enjoyed walking around it. I just didn't get to speak as much Spanish as I would have liked.Guest review byRickUnited States - 10.0

Chapala is a nice and very relaxed town right at the lake with the same name! It has a supermarket, but also a nice local market with fresh fruit and vegetables. Considering that the area is very popular with tourists it isn't overly touristy. The local population is still very present in every day life. Prices are still reasonable! And people are still nice and friendly!Guest review byBernieCanada - 4.0
Jocotepec is a small traditional Mexican town on the shores...
Jocotepec is a small traditional Mexican town on the shores of Lake Chapala. There are some stores along the main highway. The central square in the town is classically Mexican, with some charm. The neighborhoods that comprise the town are old and rundown, and the housing we saw for residents reminds one that not all of us have beautiful homes, backyards and pools. You can learn a lot about how people live and have a better appreciation for your lot in life.Guest review byFrankUnited States - 8.0

Our vacation was spent entirely with a family who lives in Ocotlan. We felt safe and enjoyed everything except the mosquitoes.. that is something to prepare for because of that river, prepare for that. Some family members left with a lot of bites on our legs and arms. Food was great and the plaza area was nice with a lot of different food to enjoy.Guest review byannette - 10.0

Ajijic is a lovely town with very friendly people.
Ajijic is a lovely town with very friendly people. It is not your typical vacation spot and it's not touristy. I was there because I had read it was a great place to live if you were thinking of relocating. While I enjoyed the town and the delicious restaurants and the friendly people, if you have any physical limitations this is not the place for you. The roads are made of rocks, big ones down to little ones which means walking is treacherous. The sidewalks are too narrow for 2 people to walk side by side and they have their problems as well as they are not constructed to be level but dip at several places. Leave your heels at home ladies. Mosquitos are a problem because Ajijic is on Lake Chapala. Bring your bug spray. All said and done my husband, and I enjoyed our stay there. But I could not live there.Guest review byRosemary GanciUnited States - 10.0

Beautiful quaint town, that has so much to offer. some beautiful properties, views, and long walks by the lake. Beautiful people who are eager to serve you. Best breakfast at the hotel Plaza Chapala, prepared by Veronica a wonderful cook. Driving to Ajijic, and Jocotepec is worth the trip.Guest review byHenriqueUnited States - 10.0

The town is very quaint with numerous typically Mexican shops, restaurants and artesanias (handcraft). The Tuesday and Wednesday markets were wonderful and we found the Mexican people generally very friendly and helpful. This was our second visit to Ajijic and we would certainly recommend it as a first choice for anyone wanting to experience village life not too far from Guadalajara.Guest review byBuhrmannMexico - 8.0
We liked Chapala.
We liked Chapala. In our opinion, it had a better feel than Ajijic, which we stayed in before and visited again this trip. There was a central market right across the road from our lodging and it was a convenient source of fresh fruit and veggies. There was also good fresh bread, cheese and a variety of meat. There were some good restaurants in town but the open air chicken & chips place (50m to the left after exiting the hotel) made us sick, so we couldn't recommend it.Guest review byDavidCanada
