Taormina, perched on the cliffs of Sicily’s eastern coast,...
Taormina, perched on the cliffs of Sicily’s eastern coast, is one of Italy’s most enchanting destinations. Here’s what makes it so great:
Breathtaking Views
Taormina offers spectacular views of Mount Etna (Europe’s most active volcano), the Ionian Sea, and nearby Isola Bella — a picturesque little island connected by a narrow beach strip.
Ancient Greek Theatre
The Teatro Antico di Taormina is a remarkably well-preserved Greek-Roman amphitheatre. It’s still used today for concerts and performances, with Mount Etna as a dramatic backdrop.
Rich History
Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, and Norman influences are all present. You’ll find a unique blend of architecture, ruins, and medieval charm throughout the town.
Romantic Atmosphere
Taormina’s narrow, flower-lined streets, boutique hotels, and scenic terraces make it ideal for couples, artists, or anyone looking for a peaceful, beautiful escape.
Sicilian Food & Wine
Enjoy local dishes like arancini, caponata, and granita. The area is also known for its fantastic wines, especially Etna Rosso, thanks to the fertile volcanic soil.
Beaches
Taormina has gorgeous beaches like Mazzarò and Isola Bella. With clear turquoise water and good snorkeling, they’re perfect for relaxing or swimming.
Stylish Shopping
Corso Umberto, the main street, is packed with designer boutiques, local artisan shops, charming cafés, and gelaterias.
Strategic Location
Taormina is a great base for day trips to Mount Etna, Catania, Syracuse, or even the Aeolian Islands — offering a mix of adventure and relaxation.

Giardini-Naxos and the surrounding towns are, however, unusually dirty, with a lot of litter scattered along the streets.
The beach, on the other hand, has wonderfully clean and clear water. People are helpful.
Traveling around, take time. The only rush is in traffic. If you travel by rental car, it helps to have a good map reader in the passenger seat and a calm mind. Honking is simply a part of the traffic culture. A motorcyclist may pass you on either the right or the left. Focus on the traffic is the most important thing.
When choosing a rental car, you should go for one with medium power. Otherwise, it may not make it up the hills. We had a Toyota Yaris 1500 Petrol Hybrid Automatic. It was ok. An automatic gearbox makes driving easier.

The town is wonderful and filled with history. we where lucky enough to visit during their carnival, which is something special especially with children.
Even the locals are wonderful, mornings in the piazza's are like from a movie, time moving slowly and everyone talking to each other over a coffee.
I loved it and looking forward to visit again.

Letojanni is a charming coastal village located in Sicily, Italy, known for its stunning beaches and picturesque views of the Mediterranean Sea. My recent visit to Letojanni was nothing short of magical, offering a perfect blend of relaxation, culture, and culinary delights.
Letojanni’s location, just a short distance from Taormina, makes it an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area.
Additionally, the locals were incredibly friendly and welcoming, providing a warm atmosphere that made me feel at home. The village's small size allows for leisurely strolls through charming streets filled with local shops and boutiques, perfect for picking up souvenirs.

The area is very interesting, with quite a lot to discover. The best way is getting a tour to understand the volcano and the whole area, how do they live and profit from the volcano.
We visited also Parco Avventura Etna, fabolous fun for a family!

Great location for watching the eruptions! The town is pretty, with plenty of eating and drinking options, and an easy journey to Catania, Syracusa, Etna and various beaches. Parking is difficult, and the roads are v narrow, so think about a small car.

Catania is only 15-20 minutes drive by car, depending on the traffic. Acitrezza was peacefull and we found the locals very kind, friendly and open hearted people. We dined well at Tratoria da Federico where we had delicious oysters fresh from local waters.
Unfortunatelly there is no posibility to walk alongside the sea more than a few hundred meters.

Giarre and neighbouring Riposto are unspoilt small towns with few tourists. We were the only foreigners wherever we ate. La Tavernetta was our favourite. The seafood market in Riposto was a perfect source for the meals we cooked in our suite. Driving in Sicily is fun as long as you copy the locals. Use Apple maps for navigation - Google maps was useless.
