FAQs about hotels in Opal Coast
The Land of Lights, Cliffs and Dunes
Named by the painter Edouard Leveque after its unique light quality, the Opal Coast (or Côte d'Opale) is part of the Pas-de-Calais department in northern France. Its stunning cliffs, sandy dunes and significant history make this region a place of great interest for tourists around the world.
The Opal Coast offers a ranquil atmosphere and truly magnificent landscapes: from wide, sandy beaches to steep cliffs reminding you of the famous cliffs of Dover, just on the other side of the English Channel. Cape Blanc Nez and Cape Griz Nez are among the most famous resorts; from the latter you can admire the never-ending stream of ships and tankers.
This popular seaside holiday destination has played its part in 20th-century history, being a place were a few battles of both world wars were fought, the most famous being at Dunkirk. It was also part of an Allied plan aiming at deceiving the Germans regarding the location of the invasion of Europe.
While on the Opal Coast, why not visit Calais, the major ferry port of northern France and, for many tourists, a starting point of their French adventure. Another popular destination is Boulogne-sur-Mer, France’s largest fishing port with a historical 12th-century belfry.
Whether you want to enjoy golfing, hiking or sightseeing, Booking.com has a perfect Opal Coast hotel for your trip.

The Operation Dynamo 1940 museum was well done and definitely worth a visit. Our walk along the promenade and the beach were both lovely. There are plenty of reasonable places to eat, both on the seafront and by the harbour. The sculptures garden was good fun and again well worth a visit.Guest review byTamsynUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Great beach with lots for children to do....bouncy castle, trampoline, beach games and a park all free of charge. Lots of statues and historical sights to visit, and a good bustling town centre with plenty of shops and restaurants. The walk down to the beach along the harbour wall is lovely.Guest review byJaclynUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Le Touqet was lovely for a short visit unless you have children who can use the superb beach. Lots of lovely restaurants and would particularly recommend a seafood one called Perard. The town is very easy to get around even for old folk like my wife and I who are both in our late seventies.Guest review byDawnUnited Kingdom - 6.0

We only stayed for one evening as a stop off back to the ferry. It’s not somewhere I would rush back to personally but it had a lovely beach. The restaurant we chose to eat at wasn’t great but that’s just luck of the draw I guess.Guest review byKIMBERLEYUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We have visited Wissant many times before for days out and decided to stay in Hotel Normandy for this trip. The hotel is friendly and traditionally French which we liked, we ate breakfast and dinner in the hotel and especially enjoyed the set menu at dinner. The hotel is just a short walk to the beach and convenient for nearby bars and restaurants, it has an outside bar and terrace. Market day is Thursday in Wissant and is worth a look. Wissant is not a traditional destination for British tourists, but it’s one of our favourite places as it’s less commerciallised than many more towns along the Opal Coast.Guest review byKarenUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Nice stop over, 40 mins from Calais, en route for the south.
Nice stop over, 40 mins from Calais, en route for the south. We arrived on a late Sunday afternoon in August. It was easy to get to and small and quiet enough to get a taste of French life without feeling we'd missed too much. We wandered the streets, admiring the architecture, visited the museum as it was closing, stopped for a drink in a bar and shopped for basic ingredients at a local store. It felt safe. Perfect for a stop over. After leaving Saint Omer we drove south and stopped in Nemours for lunch, picking up picnic items from the supermarket and parking up in a big carpark on a very attractive part of the river. Would recommend as an alterrnative to the services.Guest review byRachaelUnited Kingdom - 2.0
