The hotel exceeded every expectation during our 3 night stay, we arrived pretty late however we were still pleasantly greeted at the front of the hotel by a lovely security guard who escorted us to our room & took the time to chat to us along the way! this made our late check in speedy and completely put us at ease. He later returned to our room with some cakes which had been left over from an event earlier that day,this was also a pleasant surprise and made us feel very welcome at the hotel. I could not recommend this hotel enough from the excellent members of staff who greeted us and looked after us our whole stay, to the cleanliness,comfort and affordability it ticked all the boxes. Both the exterior and interior of the hotel were spotless! Our room was so clean & so comfortable and the decor was beautiful, we had the most delightful stay! The hotel was the perfect location only a short distance from the centre to which you could walk or grab an uber.

    You'll need at the very least 1/2 day for this as it's a way...

    You'll need at the very least 1/2 day for this as it's a way outside town so you have to take a bus to get there. You have to pay to enter the site, which is spread out quite a wide area, with alternative trails taking in the various separate sites within it, including a couple with temporary exhiibitions (caption in Slovak & English). There are several viewpoints over the Danube ad far beyond (you can see 3 countries at once, but by far the best is from the top of the castle itself - well-deserved due to the no. of steps to get there! Children seemed to be enjoying the place as there are so many places where you can climb up (stairs), then look out, or get inside rather dark enclosures! You can also take a bus to the village of Zatevna, then hike (about 2 hours or more) from there along the trail (yellow marks) through woods & by fields to get to Devin Castle. This path is quite steep in parts & can get muddy after rain, & is less well-marked than I'd like, but local hikers (plentiful at weekends) are very helpful at putting you onto the right path! A shorter and flatter walk, along the path of the iron curtain (i.e. along the Danube), can also begin from just below the castle site; it has an array of memorials, some very subtle, so is very moving. There is a little local bar/cafe some way around on this latter walk, but there are also cafe-restaurants around the castle car park.
