Mandalay Hill

This hill has unparalleled views across Mandalay. It’s a picturesque trek up the southern side, passing through an array of pagodas – where you’ll have to take your shoes off. Once you get to the top, the panorama sweeps across the bay. It’s best appreciated when the warm evening light glints off the gold-pointed stupas that pierce the treetops here and there.

Mandalay (and the rest of Myanmar) is still fairly unknown to Western tourists. However, avoid visiting the Royal Palace: it's not worth the money nor the walk. Visit Mandalay hill and the famous U Bein bridge, stroll down the streets and have a look downtown at the hustle and bustle of Mandalay's 'shopping centre'. Insane! Taxi's are really cheap but you can also rent bikes to get around town. Watch out for the crazy traffic though.
