“Mr Nicholas Gold This is our second stay here at the Vanderbilt. We liked it so much that we booked another week here instead of another top notch hotel in the area and here's why. Customer Service Customer service here is unbelievable, I mean really unbelievable. Everyone does it here with a smile, effortlessly and make you feel that they are totally interested in YOU. From the moment you walk in the Doormen welcome you with a smile, the bellmen escort you to the front desk, where they get you champagne while you wait. The staff here makes you feel like they are totally interested in what we need and will do anything to meet our expectations. The girls at the front desk were more than accommodating. I'm sorry I don't remember their names but one young lady was blond and the other wore glasses. We had a ocean view room but she asked if we wanted a upgraded one with a balcony. We took the one with the balcony as it was roomier than the ocean view room. The bellman Frank Medina was awesome, I saw him daily, every morning he would greet me with a smile , wanted to know how my day before was and what were my plans for the day. This was before I would go on my run, and when I would return from my run, he was standing there with a cold bottle of water waiting for me. One day the taxis were on strike, and The Vanderbilt left us a notice about this and we had forgotten and got ready to go to the mall for a little shopping . We we got down stairs he was there to greet us and reminded us about the taxis but asked if he can get us a car service which was to expensive just to go to the mall so we declined and told him that we would just hang out at the pool. As we are walking away he tells me "Mr Encinias, you can borrow my car if you really want to go to the mall" this was such a nice gesture but we thanked him and declined, He then says " well I get off at 3:30 if you want me to take you there and pick you up, I will too? Now who does this?”

We stayed in room 12, it was a nice size and clean with a super comfortable king size bed and a wonderful view of the ocean. Was it pricey?...yes especially being Canadian and have to endure the crappy exchange rate. Besides the crappy Exchange rate ..remember...it is on the ocean. Would I do it again?... Hell yes! This place was exactly what we were looking for. Walk out the front door right onto the Big Beautiful Beach .......can't get any better than that. If you're looking for fancy smancy then it's not for you. It's quiet and comfortable and clean and the staff was superb. The four things I look for when booking accommodations. We just wanted to be beach bums for a few days, so it's suited our purpose perfectly. If you don't have a car don't worry the buses take you right into old San Juan. Don't worry about where you get off once you're there Old San Juan isn't that big. The continental breakfast at Pamela's was perfect, just enough goodies to get you going in the morning. We had a couple of lunches there which I must say were delicious. We never did have dinner there which I'm sure it would've been just as yummy, but hubby was whining about the US dollar ( I guess one of us has to be budget conscious ) so we walked up the street about three blocks , turn left and you'll come across three restaurants. The first is cafeteria like but the food is good, yummy soups and dozens of eye-popping desserts. The one beside that has lots of tapas and great pizzas.... Two thumbs up on this place. Never got around to trying the third one look like it had tacos etc. oh yeah, there was a restaurant bar before these but it looked a little too crazy and loud for our liking. Just to sum it up...if you're looking to be beach bums with a book and/or don't mind a $.”

It is a great experience if you have never stayed in an authentic old San Juan apartment. However, I would not call this an apartment. It is definitely a home. The windows are huge. There is a huge center courtyard open to the sky, about 40 feet high. It has a fountain in the courtyard. The shower area is huge, the kitchen is huge, again very charming. If you want a more authentic experience this is the place to stay. The entire place must be 3,000 square feet, or there abouts.”

“Eileen is a very nice and caring host. She did absolutely everything to make our stay comfortable. Eileen and her daughter know everything about the Island and they helped us to plan our trip through Puerto Rico. Eileen even helped us to get a cheap rental car. While we stayed there, the appartment was cleaned every day and there was free drinking water. The accommodation is not directly in the City Center, but just 2 minutes away from the train station from where you can reach every place in San Juan. Eileen doesn't live in the appartment, but she was available via phone and mail the whole time.”
