Just a 2-minute walk from Takayama Station, Oyado Koto No Yume offers Japanese-style rooms with a colourful touch. The staff were so kind and accommodating, and truly tried to go above and beyond for their guests. Every time we came back to the hotel we were greeted with an enthusiastic welcome back and ushered into the warmth and comfort of the reception area. Breakfast was exceptional and beautifully presented. The hotel also arranged for our luggage to be sent to our next destination which was extremely helpful as it meant we didn’t have to worry about storage lockers during our visit to nearby Shirakawa-go. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we’d be beyond delighted to come back.

Located just a 1-minute walk from popular Miyagawa Morning Market in the heart of Takayama, Sumiyoshi Ryokan offers homely Japanese-style accommodation in the historic townhouse building. The staff are very welcoming and courteous. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Accommodation is very comfortable and close to the train/bus station and surrounding attractions.

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. This was a true authentic ryokan experience. Lovely staff, perfect location and delicious dinner two nights. We slept well on double futons and enjoyed the Onsen ( sitting outside in a warm tub while it was raining was so relaxing!) We will come again if we return to Takayama!

Situated at the heart of historic Takayama Old Town and just steps away from Takayama Jinya Morning Market, the traditional Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan offers personalised hospitality, hot spring baths... Staff are very kind, the service is great and we loved the authentic atmosphere.

Chaya Hotel se nachází pouhých 40 metrů od zrekonstruovaného poštovního města Magome-Juku z doby Edo a nabízí jednoduché tradiční pokoje s futonovou postelí a podlahou tatami. The building itself is very well maintained; despite its long history, it is remarkably clean, solid, and pleasantly comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, full of Japanese flavor, and served in just the right portions. The staff were warm and welcoming, with excellent communication skills in both English and Japanese, and they were always eager to assist. The traditional Japanese bedding was warm and comfortable, spotlessly clean with no odors, allowing for a truly restful night’s sleep.

Hida Takayama Hodakaso Yamano Iori is just a 3-minute walk from JR Takayama Train Station and a 10-minute walk from Old Town and Takayama Jinya and Miyagawa Morning Market. Facilities - A beautiful old building, the outside is charming and has a picturesque entrance. The layout is convenient and it is clean and well maintained. Rooms - the room we stayed in had a tatami floors but western style beds raised off the floor (only by a few centimetres). It had a small tv which only had local tv on it. The room is beautiful, with paper window shutters and sliding paper doors. There was a toilet inside and a basin in the entrance. Bath - the highlight. The bath is clean, and is perfect to come back to after a day of sightseeing. Staff - didn’t have much interaction, but the receptionists were extremely polite, as is standard for hotels in Japan, and the older gentlemen who showed us to the rooms was extremely helpful and polite. He brought our suitcases up in the service lift so we didn’t have to lug them up the stairs. Location - perfect, barely a 5 minute walk from the station, and another 5 minutes to the historic streets. Plenty of restaurants and shopping around.

Awarded in 2014 with TripAdivsor’s Certificate of Excellence, Takayama Ouan features traditional Japanese designs and tatami (woven-straw) flooring throughout. Excellent value! Really nice and spacious rooms. The futons lie on an extra mattress, making the introduction to them quite comfortable. Both the public hotspring and the private ones are really good and excellent to relax. Free food and sweets are also much appreciated:)

Ideally located just a 2-minute walk from JR Takayama Station and Shirakawa-go Bus Terminal, this hotel boasts a natural hot spring bath where guests can unwind. Free Wi-Fi is available in all areas. Great location. Very clean room, with bunk bed.. Good breakfast as well.

Boasting open-air hot spring baths looking over the city and heartfelt hospitality, Honjin Hiranoya Annex is ideally located just steps away from popular Takayama Jinya building and its morning... The staff were incredible and made the trip super special. They were incredibly attentive and helpful
