Johny, Kela, Obi, and their family (yes, even the family dog that we love) made us feel like we were reconnecting with long-lost relatives. It was truly one of those magical travel experiences that remind us why we love exploring the world. The three days we spent there flew by in the blink of an eye. The jungle trek with Kela was unforgettable—he knows the forest like the back of his hand and shared so much fascinating information with us. He answered all our questions with incredible patience and made sure we were well taken care of the entire time. The way he prepared our fruits and meals was fantastic. Ending the trek with a river journey back was the cherry on top of an already perfect experience. We’re so glad we did it! As for the room, if you need a bit more space, definitely ask Johny for Room 1—it’s perfect for two. Yes, it can be a little damp, especially during the rainy season, but that’s part of the charm of staying in a bamboo hut surrounded by nature. The room was clean, and while there’s only cold water, it felt perfect for the natural setting. What was really important for us was that they had a mosquito net! Plus, the family-like atmosphere more than made up for any small inconveniences—we wouldn’t trade it for anything. If you’re open to trying local breakfast options, they source delicious lontong sayur and other local dishes. The family truly goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable—you just need to ask. Lucky Bamboo was hands down the best highlight of our Sumatra trip. We can’t wait to come back! Our guide was passionate, caring, and deeply respectful of nature. He took the time to explain everything, which made the adventure even more meaningful. The trek was well organized, with nice breaks and even a delicious meal in the heart of the jungle. A truly authentic immersion in nature — I highly recommend it to all wildlife and adventure lovers

We had a fantastic time with Sumatra Orangutan Trek. Everything was well organized from start to finish. The jungle trek was unforgettable. We saw several orangutans, gibbons, and other monkeys. The guides were knowledgeable and clearly passionate about the environment, always respectful of the wildlife. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and helpful, making us feel at home right away. The accommodation was clean and comfortable. A perfect way to experience the jungle in a responsible and memorable way.

What a wonderful time we had at Magpie Homestay! The bungalow is spacious, clean and had everything we needed, the garden is an amazing green oasis. My daughter loved feeding the fish every morning. Asniar is a fantastic host who took care of all our needs. The trekking with Nangnang, Nasir and Putra was definitive the highlight of our stay. They made sure we had the best time and spoilt us with amazing food. But we also loved visiting the village and talking to the friendly families at the canal, the bat cave (my daughter felt like a little explorer), the village tour, the eco print workshop with Sarah, visiting the Project Wings and having pizza at the Pizza ship - all of these activities are highly recommended. But most of all, we loved getting to know and speaking to the extremely friendly people of the Homestay and of Bukit Lawang. Thank you so much to Asniar, Nangnang, Nasir and Putra for everything! We will be back one day!

It was a nice mix of traditional and modern. It's located right at the exit of Sorake surf spot, so it's a great spot for surfing. There's a terrace in front of each room, so you can sit, relax, and watch the surfers. Next door to the Dolin Cottage is a restaurant called 'BEOS PUB', where almost everything is generally good. I highly recommend the seafood pasta.
