Alpine #1 is situated in West Yellowstone, 1.5 km from Yellowstone Historic Center Museum, 1.8 km from Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center, and 2.5 km from Yellowstone National Park West Entrance. Ideally situated to explore most of Yellowstone. Although it was in the town it was very quiet and private. Almost perfectly equipped - the washing facilities were a real bonus for us over two weeks into our trip. Cooking provision and large fridge were most helpful.

West Yellowstone offers a variety of accommodation right at the West Entrance to the park. As accommodation is limited within the park, it is a handy to overnight here when spending 2 or more days in the park. There are a variety of bars and restaurants. The town is much more low key and less sophisticated than say Jackson. Hotel rooms even here can be expensive.

The proximity to the park entrance was better than I had expected. The town is very walkable and there is a good selection of tourist shops and restaurants. For breakfast we ate at the running bear pancake house. I highly recommend the boysenberry syrup with the pancakes or the brisket burrito. The pancakes are as big as the plate so use caution when ordering a stack. This place is popular so be prepared to wait especially on weekends. For dinner we tried Hanks chop house and really enjoyed the spinach dip. If cocktails are you thing, huckleberry mules are one of the signature drinks in the area and after trying several other restaurants Hanks has the best Huckleberry mules.

Great Yellowstone entrance choice for those who don’t have time to explore the entire park. This area gives you access to most of the popular sites. The town itself has a ton of shops and restaurants.

Our family had an amazing time in West Yellowstone.
Our family had an amazing time in West Yellowstone. It was a great place to access Yellowstone Park. Buffalo Bar was a great place for dinner. Food and drinks were exceptional . The Gusher piazza shop had great pizza and was less crowded than other places. We enjoyed walking around this town and taking in the sights. Be sure to take in the Yellowstone flick at the IMax theatre.

West Yellowstone is a fun energetic and lively town, beautiful setting. Several great restaurant options, and by far the most reasonable prices in their souvenir stores, shirts, jewelry, all fair priced.

The town had some very “western” restaurants, fantastic brisket, and a few reasonable stores. But it was overrun with kitschy t-shirt stores. Kind of low-end. Only a handful of reasonable stores. Nothing in comparison to Jackson Hole where we started our trip.
