The bar and restaurant were still open when I arrived at 815pm and I really appreciated being able to have a nice meal and drink before I headed up to my room.. The bar staff were also super friendly and helpful. My morning shuttle Driver Ferdinand was also very helpful and friendly. I loved how comfortable and quiet my room was as well ! I grew up in San Diego. I came home for a visit. My brother made our trip great. He took us out kayaking on LaJolla Shores and Cove. We went paddle boarding at Kelloggs Beach. I took my grandaughter to Sea World. Ate at many awesome restaurants. Went to Laguna Mtn Observatory.
The downtown area is basically destroyed. Homeless folks all over the place. Every block smells like urine. No shopping to speak of, and quality of the environment is poor. If you're going to make the trip to San Diego, head to the downtown area of Coronado Island. Awesome downtown space, safe, clean, and tons of local shopping/dining. Definitely upscale experience. Or, you can stop in La Jolla which is just north of San Diego and the experience is the same, very upsale, clean, great food and shopping. It's so sad that downtown San Diego has turned into a pit. I've gone there for decades and really had some magical times, but now, I'd never go there again. With the exception of Little Italy district, it's just done.....
We loved our time in San Diego. We visited several beaches and each was unique and fun. We also especially enjoyed the San Diego Zoo, which we would recommend to anyone. The food scene is also great and great food is available at any price point.
The people were so kind and helpful. The streets were a little dirty and often smelled like piss. The harbor tour was fantastic. I loved being able to go find a bodega or a bar or a baseball stadium or a hotel all within walking distance I really had a fabulous time. On the walk back to the hotel we stopped off at every rooftop bar for a drink. They all had great views! I definitely recommend the gas lamp as a travel destination.
The Bay Front Hilton is a great place to stay with walking distance to Petco Park and other restaurants and hotels nearby. The boardwalk was really fun to walk and sightsee with cute shops and restaurants.
San Diego is one of the smallest city Ive visited in the US, Recommend: the USS Midway museum; if you're into war history and Naval ships. Have a stroll on the bayfront a lot of maritime traffic to observe. Grab a baseball game: if you're in season, just for the stadium experience, Visit Balboa park and its museums. Grab dinner in Little Italy. Enjoy the beach at Coronado island. Visit the Zoo: if you're into animals.
Downtown San Diego, San Diego
The apartment was comfortable and easy to access. The location is also quite good, although being below the SAN flight path might bother some guests. The apartment was clean on arrival.
