Our stay was just an over-night stop before going to Yellowstone. The town was quaint and clean. We ate at the Oxbow restaurant -very good. Very friendly staff and other customers.I would like to go back and see more the town.
Lander is a small town in Wyoming. There were some cute or specialty shops, only one big grocery store (that is old). There were quite a few other businesses that were newer- hardware, lumber, recreational, etc. There was a variety of restaurants. There were a few museums, and one could take day trips to other towns and historical sites.
Lander is a classic western town with a strong emphasis on the outdoors. Several good dining options exist in the town but not a lot of nightlife except for the Lander Bar, which is great with a micro brewery.
A wonderful small mountain town with a lot of charm and community spirit. The economy has obviously taken a toll on local businesses, as many are vacant in the downtown. But the outdoor opportunities to hike, hunt, fish, and camp are abundant and some of the best in the world.
The problems with this hotel are entirely due to management neglect at the highest level, it has nothing to do with the staff. This hotel is understaffed and personnel decisions are not made on the basis of training. This is cost-cutting by high management, and it shows.
Breakfast was paper bag with fruit and roll. We went across the street for breakfast. Appears management was trying to cut cost as two lightbulbs were out in our room. Asked for sheet with TV channels and desk clerk said that his father (assuming this was management/owner) did not want to spend the money to provide, and no secure password was available per desk clerk as his father did not like passwords! Desk clerk was nice and pleasant but was disappointed with our stay per the issues that I mentioned above.
