Apartman Katka is set in Poprad, 33 km from Dobsinska Ice Cave, 33 km from Treetop Walk, as well as 44 km from Spis Castle. Walking times: - 30 minutes to the airport - 25 minutes to the train station - 35 minutes to the centre Perfect apartment for my stay in a nice, quiet area. Friendly owner who invited me in for a drink to say hi. I found Poprad to be a great base for a week of hiking in the High Tatras. The electric trains run to all of the main trail heads (Strbske Pleso, Stary Smokovec) from very early in the morning. I also found the Dott e-scooters helpful for getting around Poprad (tip: they always have offers in app for 2 rides for 4 euro). There's a good range of restaurants in Poprad; burgers and beers, Vietnamese, pizza.

This is the village where my husband's grandfather lived most of his life until he was about 17/18 years old. We came to explore our family tree and ended up meeting about 19 family members during our 2 night stay in Batizovce. We also drove up to the High Tatras (just 30 minutes away) and walked around the lake at Strbske Pleso then enjoyed a lovely meal at the Grand Hotel Kempinski. Our only complaint was that there really isn't a fully operational restaurant in the village. We had to drive to Svit (which was only about 5 minutes away) but we would have preferred to walk somewhere. The village only has 9,500 residents so maybe they just don't have the numbers to have a restaurant that is open more than a few hours each day.
Poprad is the perfect base for exploring Slovakia. The tram up the mountains is a must . Walking at Pleso and Smokovec is brilliant - both easy and hard trails. Pleso can be skied in the winter months, We did the Sucha Bela walk which was great although not for the faint hearted if you're scared of heights ! We did the longer route to Klastorisko which had amazing views and self service beer . You can also get E- Bikes at the top of the Sucha Bela which i would recommend as the walk back is a bit boring and mostly a road track. Large shopping centre in Poprad. Large selection of restaurants. Public transport is cheap and readily available. The locals do not speak a great deal of English although as stations and hotels the English is good.
Belly slavkov is a small village with only a small supermarket, which has by the way very low prices. Apart from the resort and restaurant nothing of interest. The best is proximity to the Tatra mountains
A cozy town with a small central area which packs pretty nice restaurants and plenty of breweries. It can get somewhat sketchy during the night but we felt pretty safe around the center. Plenty of shops but they close early in some cases. I definitely recommend Dobre Casy brewery and Hodovna bistro. They both have a great staff and great offering. The proximity to the Hogh Tatras is great if you're travelling by car, which makes it great for those who are looking for hiking trails or winter sports resorts.
It's my 3rd stay in this place and I find it convenient. Either going for hikes or visit Poprad town there is no issues as there is a train that can bring you to any of those locations every hour. It's quiet place and perfect to relax and recover from daily mountain trips! Will definitely return there again!
We stayed in Poprad for just 1 night after a ski break in the Tatry mountains. Our flight was to/from the Poprad Tatry airport. We explored the town which was incredibly quiet (Monday afternoon). The Termy looked like it might have been good, but we had only been to another one the day before. If we had visited at a weekend or at a different time of year, we may have had a different experience.
