Loved this motel! It was spotless, spacious, and comfortable. The owner is a gem, who welcomed me with a smile, milk for my coffee, and some information on Thames. Was it the most updated - no. Was everything tidy and in good repair - absolutely. I would stay here over a hotel with updated decor.

Chartré Manor B&B is located in Thames and features a pool with a view and sea views. With garden views, this accommodation offers a patio. We really enjoyed our stay in the cottage, hosted by Anna-Marie and Johan. The cottage has charm, beautiful views and it’s in a very quiet location. The space is private with ample parking for a large car. The cottage is well equipped with everything you need, and Anna-Marie keeps the fridge stocked with all essential items, breakfast and snacks throughout the day. There was fresh eggs, bacon, cheese, jam, bread, croissants, smoked salmon, fruit, yogurt, cereal, all different kinds of beverages, cookies, etc. Anna-Marie also stopped by and delivered fresh produce and additional snacks! She was warm, welcoming, and very quick to respond to messages. The small kitchen has everything you need, including a portable HOB burner and an electric frying pan for cooking. Everything is stored in the kitchen cupboards. We loved having air conditioning as we were there during a heat wave. Finally, the best part of our stay was the hospitality of our hosts. I highly recommend this peaceful paradise!

I like so many places in Thames: especially the green areas, beach, museums, art galleries, op shops + other retail places. Spent couple hrs with friend @ Bright Smile Community Gardens, sorting weeding, etc. Then we enjoyed morning tea. I'd had a good breakfast, so didn't eat out in Thames this time, though I'm aware there are nice places to dine. Some great activities are: walking, cycling, visiting local places, meeting friends.
Thames has changed so much since my childhood days;so for me seeing the canals fenced off, St James unable to walk up the spire, the closiing of the Regent Theatre bring up nostalgic Memories of what we used to be able to do. But...great to see the foundry still operating, can still go up the great old monument providing a great view. So lovely to have a walk up the Karaka Ck, step back in history with a walk thru Irishtown, drive up the Kaeranga river, the improvements in historic Totora and Shortland cemetries, drive along the coast and dont forget to visit Miranda on the other side with its bird sanctuaries and other sights .I will always recommend visiting Thames and the surrounding territory...right up to Port Jackson. Oh yes, what about the old ( and maybe more?)restaurant, then called "El Zorro" located in what is now called Grahamstown and now a fabulous Thai restaurant wirh extensive menu.. Yes, I love Thames.
Thames is a pleasant small town with adequate facilities. Almost every thing of interest is located on the main street. There are good cafes and a tiny cinema. I would recommend Little Toke for coffee and cake and the restaurant next to it for evening dining. The fish and chips at the wharf are good too. If you are travelling by car a trip up the Kaueraengae is worth the effort.
Quirky little town that has all the needed amenities, eg Pak n Save, The Warehouse, numerous eating places, secondhand shops etc. Beautiful coastal drive up to Coromandal if you dont mind narrow winding roads.
oh useless people. A Chinese Take away shop , Dragone name was really awful food and behaviour . The lady almost wanted to fight with all her body to me . Rusty lady .another local lady also around the area , I parked my car was so unusual . She came around my car and banged to my window then started fighting . Not a normal city and I never had this kind of experiences anywhere . God Bless these people
Thames sure has improved since we were last time several years ago with regard to the town centre. Some great shops. Good Pak n Save supermarket. Waterfront is attractive and trip up the coast to Coromandel is fantastic - gorgeous NZ scenery
