The food was delicious (dinner and breakfast), and the rooms were spotless and well-equipped. The stunning biodiversity and natural beauty of the area made the experience even more unforgettable. Absolutely loved it!!!

Situated in Tissamaharama, 6 km from Tissa Wewa, Lake Villa Resort features an outdoor pool and views of the mountain. Our room was fronting the lake. We saw many colourful birds, a crocodile, an eagle and some buffalos - it was very impressive (don't worry there is a fence between the lake and the hotel)! Loved the staff who were extremely friendly from the welcoming drink, food serving, to driving us all the way to Ella (I would definitely recommend using their taxi service as we also had optional stops to see a dam, drink coconuts and visit a famous waterfall)! Safari was excellent. We booked a private tour with them and our guide (Nipona) was helpful passionate and very knowledgeable. Saw lots of animals and ... (solely thanks to Nipona's tracking and knowledge of the deer's alarm call) we spotted a leopard ! I'm sure you could get cheaper tours elsewhere but this was well worth the price and glad we went with them!

Set within 7.2 km of Tissa Wewa and 19 km of Bundala Bird Sanctuary in Tissamaharama, Lapwing Lake Villa features accommodation with seating area. I cannot recommend this place enough. I had only booked to stay 3 nights - but ended up staying 3 weeks as I completely fell in love with the place and the family. I am a female who has been solo travelling the world for 6 months and I can honestly say this is my favourite place I have stayed. The villa is situated on a quiet and peaceful lake - I spent many evenings sitting watching the birds as the sun set. The villa has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The rooms are also clean with a very comfortable bed. Dasun was truly the most wonderful host - he always made sure I was comfortable, happy and always laughing (and also never hungry - the food was amazing!!!) He is a good and honest man and his family are also the most kind and hospitable people. I have never felt so welcomed - his family are like a second family to me now. I also went on 2 safari trips to Yala with Dasun Safari as I enjoyed the first so much. Dasun is a huge wildlife enthusiast and his knowledge on the safari was impeccable. Believe me when I say he knows something about everything! Crocodiles are my favourite animal - and on the 2nd safari we saw 18!!! We also saw a leopard and 15 elephants in one day. Dasun also took me to various places in the village to give me a true, authentic Sri Lankan experience - off the usual touristy track. I saw how Buffalo curd was made, went on a catamaran trip on the lake and also watched jewellery be hand made (thanks Sumo!). I loved every minute of my stay at Lapwing Lake Villa. So much so that I will definitely be returning. Thank you Dasun Ayya!!!!!
