We liked that it was close to Fukuoka airport, got given very detailed instructions on how to get there and how to access the room etc. We appreciated the presence of a laundry machine and kitchen utensils, plates and bowls so we could cook and do our laundry. It was great for our 1 week stay before we flew out of the city. We had no car but it was manageable to lug our luggage from La Port to the Domestic side of the Airport by following the recommended route. Just be careful and mindful of the cars on the road.

Ideally set in the centre of Fukuoka, Toyoko Inn Hakata-eki Minami features air-conditioned rooms with free WiFi and private parking. We loved the staff. They were very friendly and helpful.
Fukuoka is good place to visit as it's not as busy and crowded like Tokyo and Osaka. Also a good main stay for day trips to Kumamoto, Beppu, Daizafu, etc. And like Tokyo and Osaka, lots of good restaurants and shops i.e Canal City
We loved the Sumiyoshi area as it was relatively close to Hakata Station (15 minutes) and all its shops and restaurants. Not far to Tenjuin by train and more shops and train connections. We really enjoyed the cherry blossoms around Fukuoka and the lovely range of spring flowers, especially the tulips and emerging azaleas
Lots of different things to do and see around the city (downtown and neighbouring areas). Easy to get around-even for longer distances you don't have to switch between many means of transportation. Delicious food, lots of options and the people where generaly very friendly and helpful. One of the best places we visited the last few years and we are already planning our next trip there.
Fukuoka has plenty to offer from food options (beyond yatai and ramen) and activities to do like bus tours, exploring malls and second-hand shops and even experiences like teamLab. The local and expressway buses and subway systems may seem a little intimidating at first but once you get the hang of it, they are pretty reliable with getting you from one point to another. Explore cafes around Ohori Park and around Tenjin for something less usual.
I was in Fukuoka for 7 days (4 days at the Nishitetsu Croom Kushida Shrine, and another 3 at the Mitsui Garden Nakasu—just for the experience of being at two chain hotels). The city is big but clean and well laid out, making using the GPS easy. I felt the population wasn’t all that crowded, compared with Tokyo. The center of transportation is the Hakata Station, big but manageable. Actually, on the very first day at Fukuoka Airport, I was confused of how to get an IC card at a machine but was helped by a very kind elderly lady (a volunteer) who spoke good English. She helped me get the card, told me where to go for the shuttle bus to the domestic terminal, and in fact followed me to the gate. Then, I took the subway (using the IC card) to Hakata Station and changed for another line to Geon but didn’t get the right line so ended up having to walk more than I should have. Later, a friend told me to take a taxi since it was quite reasonably priced but I ended up walking back and forth to Hakata Station most of the time since the first hotel wasn’t far at all. Outside of Fukuoka, a few friends and I also took the Shinkansen to Saga, a lovely little ancient village specializing in making ceramics—but try to get there early, eg, before 9 or 9.30, or else you might have trouble finding a parking like us who rented a Toyota from the Saga Station. Another city that we explored was Beppu, a much bigger place than Saga—with the 7 famous onsens, including mud ones which we didn’t try—too bad. I haven’t seen much of Fukuoka or Kyushu Island, so must get back there soon! I loved Fukuoka! It was a good experience—with practically everything, good food, good department stores (eg. Mitsukoshi, Canal City, Daimaru Tenjin), even a good CD shop (ie. Tower Records).
This was the last city on our trip. We started in Tokyo, then went to Kamakura, Mishima, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka and Hiroshima. Fukuoka, as seen from an outside perspective, is the most vibrant. Communication is more candid, humor is more evident, people are more talkative, and there's a slight "Vegas meets Japan" vibe at night, with some of the more adult clubs' advertising.
Fukuoka
Common room was wonderful, met a lot of really interesting folks visiting the Fukuoka! Walk-in/step-in showers and bathrooms are outside of sleeping rooms, but private which was a pleasant surprise (only one person at a time!) Love that there's a curfew (12am which is more than reasonable imo) Location is conveniently near the Gion station on the Fukuoka Airport Line and a few minutes walk to Kushida Shrine and Kawabata Shopping Arcade which made it super convenient for food, sight-seeing, and shopping!
This was good for a business hotel. The room was relatively small/compact (as expected), but it had a modern look, the bed was comfortable and had a good size for two people, and the bathroom was very clean and complete with a tub. The hotel is on a quiet street, but the location is close to Hakata Station. There's also a nearby bus that takes you all the way to the International Terminal of Fukuoka Airport.
