The hotel just a 10-minute drive from the Cité Médiévale and the centre of Carcassonne. It is 800 meters from exit "ouest" on the A61 Motorway. Good Air - conditioning. I asked for an extra towel, and Alain the owner gave me an extra towel. I also asked for an extra toilet roll, and he told me to ask the cleaning staff. One of the cleaners , gave me one. All the staff were helpful and friendly.

The citadel is just stunning and very well preserved. I especially loved exploring it around sunset and sunrise - great light for photos, and fewer crowds. Once you enter the castle (to do the tour of the walls), make sure to bring water because there is no place to buy it inside. Also, I was surprised to find there are no places selling sunscreen within the old town, you have to walk back to the more modern part of Carcassonne to find a pharmacy - so don't do like me and be prepared :D
The breakfasts were very nice and we had different options each day. Given the hot weather, it was fantastic to have a swim each day after being out sightseeing. The hosts were extremely helpful in giving us suggestions about what to see in the area.
The restaurants were on the whole very good, although quite similar, all serving the famous cassoulet. The castle was very interesting, and we enjoyed the Bastide area, as well as the main town square. we took a Bolt taxi to the lake and spent a nice day there paddle boarding, and we went on a boat trip on the Canal du Midi which was also really enjoyable. We went for a week, but I think we could have cut this down to around 4 nights.
the whole of carcassonne is fabulous their are many great places to eat any history buff will love it. everything is within walking distance so getting around is easy. walk the ramparts the view is stunning take the audio guide with you.
My third visit to Carcassonne and most enjoyable. Unless you are travelling outside of the immediate area it is not necessary to hire a car. Cite in August is full to bursting with tourists - June is definitely a better month to visit.
The old city is obviously amazing. Boat trips on the Canal du Midi are also interesting and relaxing, and cool in the southern heat. The square in the newer city is a good place to find lots of good food and drink.
